What is suffering?
So, now we have the definitions down. Okay, but really what is it? Is it pain in the body? Is it a physical, mental, or emotional pain?
Last year, my roommate, Amber, was in a car accident. A car accident that left her with many unanswerable questions and lots of pain.
My question is why in the world would God allow something to happen like that to someone like her? (You have to understand my roommate is one of the most unique, genuine, down to earth, Godly woman I have ever met in my whole nineteen and a half years of living.) She has pain that she has to deal with every single day, she doesn't feel 100%, yet somehow everyday, she has pure joy on her face and so many smiles and so much laughter coming out.
How does she do that?
I only have one answer: Jesus. Yes, He allowed this to happen. And yes, He knows she's not going to feel her best every single day, yet He loves her just as He loves us. He's allowing this suffering to teach others that He has a plan for them. He wants them to come home and have eternal life. I don't understand it. I probably never will. But I know that God has given me so much and He has these huge plans for me.
What about my health?
We all know that last year I was diagnosed with runner's knee and patellar tendonitis. They told me it's chronic. Everyday, I live with swollen knees and pain. Yes, it's tolerable but at first it was unbearable and I have learned how to live with the pain. I even lifted people with special needs who were anywhere from 50-200lbs at camp this summer. But you know what I learned? It's not about pain. It's about the joy that Jesus brings. The reason that I'm smiling everyday is because God has given me a sense of peace. He has shown me that I am able to live my life out for Him and be joyful and genuine to those around me.
